By the start of the literature festival Meet Me at the Lighthouse, on Thursday 13 November at 15:30, the Poet Laureate of Friesland, Arjan Hut, will open his exhibition ‘Lytse Ivichheid – Eindeloos Nu’ – Frisian poetry books on the outside, from the roaring to the rotting twenties.
For this exhibition, the Poet Laureate of Friesland selected 49 cover designs of Frisian poetry books that have been published over the past hundred years.
Not everyone reads Frisian and poetry is a genre that rarely reaches the general public. But visual language is a lot more universal. A cover can enchant you, just as a visual line of poetry can.
The covers were selected for their attractiveness as a poster for the collection. Is it ‘keapsjoch’, does it look attractive to buy? How important is the cover for the poet? How does the design relate to the poetry in the collection?
During the literature festival Meet Me at the Lighthouse, Poet Laureate of Fryslân, Arjan Hut, will take you on a walk across the island along a selection of the exhibited posters and highlight a number of poets by reading from their work.
The title ‘Lytse Ivichheid – Eindeloos Nu’ is inspired by the collection ‘Lytse Ivichheit’ by Jan Dotinga from 1965, one of the covers that are part of the exhibition. Everyone is cordially invited to attend the opening.
