Poet of Fryslân Sigrid Kingma has been invited to a literary festival in Sardinia. She heard this on Tuesday evening during a visit by a delegation of Italian language minorities to Fryslân.
The representatives of three language minorities from Italy will be immersed in Frisian culture this week. They are here at the invitation of the Dutch embassy in Rome.
Kingma’s poem had been translated into the minority languages Sardinian, Friulian and Ladin before the visit. These different versions were presented in the Tryater building. That also came as a surprise to Kingma: “It was beautiful. I was able to follow that second.” Festival organizer Tore Cubeddu of Sardinia was so impressed by Kingma’s text and presentation that he spontaneously invited her to come to Sardinia in September for a literary festival.
The Friulians, Sardinians and Ladinians are here to gain inspiration from how things are arranged in Frisian culture. According to them, the Frisian minority in the Netherlands has good facilities.
